What is the warranty on your DVR's?
All of our DVR's come with a 1-year manufacturer's limited warranty.
Why does it always ask me for a password? Can I disable the password?
Echovue DVR's are manufactured as high quality security products. The frequent password prompting is for your security and protection to assure that your DVR settings cannot be tampered with. There is no way to disable this feature.
What do "VL" and "PL" at the top of the screen mean?
"PL" means that the DVR experienced a Power Loss. "VL" means that the camera experienced a Video Loss. To find out when these events took place yuo can access the INFO LOG by pressing the LOG button on the remote.
How do I clear the "PL" and "VL" off the screen?
Press the cancel/OSD (on screen display button) several times until the "PL" and "VL" is removed. If the OSD turns off completely (no text on the screen) press the button one more time to turn the On Screen Display back on.
What do the numbers on the bottom of the screen mean?
To the right of the time and date are 2 numbers. Top number is the estimated time (in hours:minutes) remaining until the hard drive fills up. The bottom number is the current available space on the hard drive. (If the DVR is set to repeat record these numbers may both be 0. This means that the DVR hard drive is full and the oldest data is currently being overwritten.)
Can I keep certain cameras from being dispayed ?
Yes, all our DVR's support covert/hidden cameras. Once the camera is set to covert it will not be displayed on the monitor or over the internet.
-EV404/804: In the Display set up menu, set Covert Mode to On.
-EV405/805: In the Display menu, set Display Off to Yes.
-EV806/1607/1608: In the Display menu, set Covert to Yes.
Can I customize the way my cameras are dispalyed (grid shape/configuration)?
Our Echovue DVR's do not support this functionality.

Can I record directly to external storage or my computer?
Our DVR's do not support this functionality. It is possible to record live over the internet using our remote view software, but the space requirements for doing this are generally prohibitive. (The smallest hard drive we install in our systems is an 80g)
Can I configure which display cameras and configurations come up when I push the display button ?
EV806/1607/1608 are the only DVR's which support this functionality (from the Disply menu)

What kind of cameras are compatible withEchoVue DVR's
Any standard CCTV security camera is compatible with our DVR's. Our DVR are also compatible with many types of PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras. For full list of compatible PTZ cameras please refer to our users' manuals.
Are your DVR's compatible with Pan/Tilt/Zoom (remote control) cameras?
-All of our DVR's are compatible with PTZ cameras. For the most current list of compatible cameras, please refer to the users manual. ()
-Note: EV404/804 and EV405/805/1605 do not support advanced PTZ functions such as autopan and tours
-Note: We recommend the Samsung SC 641 PTZ for use with out DVR's. Several of our customers have used this camera with great success in the past.
How do I connect a PTZ camera to the DVR?
-Please consult the PTZ camera manual for instructions on setting up your camera
-Note: To hookup a PTZ to EV405/805/1605 you will need to purchase a CS485 to CS422 converter such as the ATEN IC-485s
Can I set a different recording speed for each camera? What is the max recording speed er camera?
Does motion recording record all cameras or only the cameras detecting motion?
Can I erase video clips?
As all Echovue DVR's are designed as security recorders, there is no way to erase sections of video from the unit. The only way to erase video is to reformat the hard drive, which will erase all the video stored on the drive
What is "Pre-record"? (EV404/804/405/805/1605)
"Pre-record" only applies to motion recording. Normally, when the DVR is set to motion recording, it takes a second to begin recording once the motion has been triggered. When pre-record is selected, a buffer of the previous 140 frames before motion was triggered is recorded to the drive. This allows the DVR to record the second or two prior to the motion sensor being triggered. Sora recommends that this setting always be turned on when you are doing motion recording.
How do I remove entries from schedule recording?
If you want to ignore certain schedule entries, set the schedule group to "NONE"
Do I need special cameras to do motion recording?
No, the functionality for motion recording is provided by the DVR. It detects motion by looking for changes in the image the camera transmits.

Do your DVR's have a digital watermarking?
Yes, our EV404/804, EV806, EV1607, and EV1608 model DVR's all support watermarking. In CMS under "set-up->general2" you can select "watermark". If the backup file has been tampered with you will see a red "TAMP" mark at the bottom of that camera's display.
How do I search recorded video?
What is the difference between "time search" and "alarm search"?
-Time search shows you a bar graph with all the times for which there is a recorded video.
-Note: All time search data will show uo in the time search bar graph, but it will not be indentified as "alarm" video in EV404/804, 405/805/1605, or 407.
How do I cancel video playback and go back to live viewing?
Press the Stop button once. (If you press the Stop button a second time this will stop recording)

What is the difference between the ADMIN and the USER passwords?
The ADMIN password gives the user access to all of the DVR menus and functions. The USER password limits the user to live viewing and review of recorded video. The USER password does not allow access to any of the system menus.
What is AUTO KEY LOCK?
Auto Key Lock locks all of the buttons on the DVR and the remote. You have to enter the USER password to unlock it. If Auto Key Lock is enabled, you must have the USER password to review recorded video.
How do I change the DVR ID of m remote?
While holding the DVR ID button enter the 2 digit DVR ID of the DVR you wish to
control. Ex "01", "02", "50", etc. (You only need to set this up if you have multiple DVR's in the same room.)
What browsers are supported for remote viewing?
Our DVR's only support remote viewing using Internet Explorer 6.0 or above on a windows based PC. No other browsers or operating systems are supported at this time.
Can I veiw my DVR remotely using a cell phone or PDA?
Our DVR's do not support remote view using cell phones or PDA's (Palm or Pocket PC's) at this time.
What port does the DVR use for remote viewing?

*To enable remote viewing for the 4/8/1605, both ports are required to be opened. Also, the port numbers are hard coded in the 4/8/1605. All other DVR ports can be changed in the DVR.

How do I view stored video remotely?
EV404/805/1605: The remote viewer does not allow you to playback stored video directly. it is possible, however, to preview short video clips stored on the DVR and download them to your computer. If you require greater functionality for viewing stored video remotely, please consider any of our DVR's that use our CMS remote view software. (EV404/804, 806, 1607, 1608)

How do I play downloaded video on my computer? (without using the CMS software)
When you burn a cd with video from your DVR, a small video player is automatically burned to a cd. When you insert the cd into your computer, the player should start automatically.
Are your DVR's compatible with external control systems?
Our DVR's are all Linux based stand-alone units. None of them are controllable by an external controller.
Are your DVR's compatible with an external POS (point of sale) system?
Our EchoVue models 806, 1607, and 1608 are compatible with a POS system. You need to access the system menu to configure the serial port to "POS" and select the "POS Model".
Will the DVR restart after a power failure?
Yes, once the DVR internal battery has been fully charged (this takes at least 6 hours) the DVR will maintain your settings (for up to 10 days) and resume recording once power is restored.

Why can’t I view my DVR remotely anymore? I used to be able to just fine, now I just get an invalid password error?
• If you have Internet Explorer 7 on your computer you will not be able to view the DVR remotely until you upgrade your DVR with the latest software version. These updates can be found on Sorainc.com under Echovue Recorders-Manuals and Software. Otherwise you will need to uninstall IE7 and reboot your computer to get IE6 back.
